No strangers to victory, Susan Duncan and Chris McMillan had to settle for second place at the Charmouth Challenge on Saturday. The eight mile fell race starts at sea level and climbs over 1,600 feet to the highest point on the South Coast at Golden Cap. This yearís race was even warmer than usual, with little in the way of cloud or breeze to cool the overheated runners.
Often ahead from early in the race, Chris had to settle for following in someone elseís footsteps this year with a former UK Athletics trail running champion in the ﬁeld. Chris crossed the line almost a minute behind him in 53.10.

Entry to the 2019-2020 Prom race series are now open. The Weston Prom Runs are an annual series of 9 five-mile races, held under ARC rules, covering two laps of the famous Weston-super-Mare promenade. Entry for the whole race series is £27.00 (or £24.00 if you enter before 1st September). Start time for each race is 7:30pm. Runners can enter the complete 9 race series and/or individual races. All standards of runner take part - so don't be put off if you are a new runner.

With three championship races to contend with and their own race to organise, all within six days of each other, last week was a busier-than-usual one for Weston Athletic Club.
Tuesday night saw the running of the unseasonably-muddy Beacon Batch ﬁve mile fell race, organised by the club. Starting and ﬁnishing in Burrington Combe, the race takes in over 1,000 feet of climb including a leg and lung-punishing climb to the highest point of the Mendips - the trig point on Beacon Batch. 84 runners completed the course, and two of Westonís own members achieved top three placings. Chris McMillan was ﬁrst overall in 35.39, only two seconds ahead of the second placed runner from Wells, while Susan Duncan was third female overall in 44.55.
